President geared to reawaken the entire country-02.08.2009-ITN News Sri lanka President Rajapaksa, addressing the Moneragala civilians said that the entire country will be reawakened following the footsteps of the ancient kings. The President clearly stated that all communities, the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims, are now living under the Lions flag. The country had to be brought to a powerful place in the world. It can be done by uplifting the lives of the people of Wellassa fraternity who were in the past brought under the guns of the colonialists. He told them that the villages of the region should be developed. What had to be done today was to develop these villages. He emphatically stated that as border villages were eliminated, remote villages should be wiped out from not only the Uva Province, but from the entire country. He was addressing a public meeting at the Buttala University grounds. It was attended by a large gathering. This was the main public rally of the Moneragala District in relation to the Uva Provincial polls. Further addressing the gathering, the President observed that he consolidated the trust placed by the people who gave him a mandate, by inheriting an independent country. The President reminisced that as the Uva Wellassa heroes who waged a battle for freedom in the past, certain groups attempted to direct those who were battling for the freedom of the nation, to the gallows. He emphasised his dedication to develop the country which had been liberated from the terrorists. The Buttala Public Service Pensioners Association made a cash donation on behalf of the Api Venuven Api Fund.
